Mindfulness talk and meditation
Exploring the Foundations of Mindfulness (pt. 1)
Mindfulness meditation is an extraordinary practice that can decrease stress, improve sleep, improve memory and problem-solving and help reduce anxiety and depression. And, though these are wonderful benefits to experience, the cultivation of a calmer, more present heart and mind is perhaps an even greater benefit of this style of meditation.
The four foundations of mindfulness were established by the Buddha millennia ago, and they continue to guide us in this practice today. By nurturing mindfulness of the body, feeling tone, the mind and the “dhammas” (how we relate to aspects of our nature and the experiences of life), we become more aware of what is influencing us throughout the day and this awareness ultimately leads us to more understanding. When we begin to understand, we begin to realize that we can make choices that lead to more happiness and an easeful mind.
In this 4-week series, we will learn about and practice the foundations of mindfulness, bringing these essential tools to our busy lives. Sessions will be in-person at The Episcopal Church of St. Mary-in-the-Highlands, Parish Hall, in Cold Spring, New York.

Living with Ease: Finding Freedom from Suffering (via Hirsch Wellness) (hybrid event)
“Living with Ease: Finding Freedom from Suffering”
This human life comes with its share of suffering and joy… the 10,000 joys and sorrows as they say in Taoism. The joys can be wonderful and the suffering is hard. Is there a way to suffer less? Yes! Join us as we explore this possibility at our fall daylong retreat.
Spend the day learning about and practicing mindfulness meditation, a discipline rich with teachings on how to work with the suffering we experience in our lives. We will gather at St. Francis Springs Prayer Center in Stoneville, NC on November 15th from 10am to 4pm.
There will be several talks given on this theme and how we can begin to relate to suffering with a skillful heart and mind. We will have multiple sessions of sitting (or lying down) meditation and walking/movement meditation throughout the day. A midday lunch is included. All levels of meditation experience are welcome. Some prior meditation is helpful but not required. This will be a hybrid event, offered in-person and online. Registration is required and will close on November 12 at noon.

Join us for an ongoing exploration of mindfulness meditation.
Awakened Heart, Awakened Mind is a biweekly online drop-in facilitates personal meditation practice and understanding by investigating common meditation hindrances and the factors that support meditative steadiness, while gently turning towards the grace and beauty inherent in our hearts, our minds, and our lives. This evening session is designed to introduce calm, reduce stress, improve sleep, instill happiness, and offer tools for emotional well-being and self-care. (There will occasionally be a practice leader instead of an instructor.)
This class is offered through the Hirsch Wellness Network in Greensboro, NC, with registration occurring via the Hirsch website (see link below). Hirsch is a beautiful community of instructors and participants, with all classes offered free of charge.
